Q&A: Question about meth abuse and recovery?

December 20th, 2011 Filed under: Meth Recovery — Addiction Recovery Author

I was looking through some old posts and found this question. I thought it was a good one so I wanted to post an answer here. The question comes from ‘CK’:

I used meth everyday for over a year. I stopped cold turkey just before I got married and have been clean for 3 years. Ever since I stopped using the drug I feel like I never really got back to my old self again. Things that I used to love doing don’t interest me anymore and it takes a lot to make me happy and I am easily irritated and not as layed back as i used to be. It has gotten a lot better over the years but I am still not my old self yet. My wife thinks that I may have a mild case of depression. Could this be true? If it is would getting put on anti-depressants help with my situation or will it just get better over time. Thanks in advance for your answeres. Thanks for your answers ladies. Would I go to my normal Doctor or should I see a phsycologist?

Answer: Well, there is a reason why you turned to drugs and stayed on them. You have all the symptoms of depression. Now this could be caused by your thyroid (Meth can damage many organs and glands), or a chemical imbalance. In either case, your doctor can perscribe the correct meds… and within 5 weeks you should be feeling like your old self.
