Q. When does a social drinker develop into a problem drinker/alcoholic?

A. When they cannot stop drinking once they start, no matter what!

Ok, so the Q&A above is a little brief and there are many more determining factors which we will look at later in this short piece. However, if you can relate to the answer above and you’re unable to stop drinking once you start, then you definitely have a problem with the drug alcohol to the point where you’re an alcoholic or borderline alcoholic. A ‘heavy drinker’ is someone who consumes far too much alcohol than is good for them, but even they can put a plug in the jug when necessary. Heavy drinkers also have spells where they don’t find it necessary to overindulge. A ‘true’ alcoholic will only ever stop once they either a). Physically can’t put down any more drink without throwing up, or b). Pass out!

If you answered yes to 3 or more of these questions, then you ought to seek help without delay. 3 or more ‘yes’ answers indicate that you have definite signs of drinking patterns which are destructive and considered borderline of full blown alcoholic.

There are a whole string of other questions that could be added to the above but they are not really necessary. This short questionnaire will pretty much assess whether you have issues with alcohol or not.

The fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous has helped many alcoholics recover from their problems with the drug alcohol over the years, but they are not everyone’s cup-of-tea so to speak.
