Help Solve Addiction

May 1st, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized — Addiction Recovery Author

Addiction is not a one way street to criminality, insanity, prison or death. Drug abuse is a symptom of an unsolved problem/s in life. The good news is once you’ve solved the life problems, drugs are no longer necessary.

So the focus is solving life problems which drive a person to abuse drugs and alcohol.

Recovery has with it many successes. I’d like to share with you why I love my job as an addictions rehab consultant and a drug prevention specialist. I deal only with people I can help and I help them recover from addiction. I have fun at my job.

But, Rehab Centers Have Apparently Two Different Goals:

  1. End their clients need to take drugs / alcohol
  2. Or, put their client on a merry go round of services / prescription medications

Fact: you’ve either got 1 or 2. If your loved one is still addicted or on endless prescription med’s, you got #2. Sorry.

Drug Abuse Can’t Be Cured As A Disease, It’s Only Treated

Shows like Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew Pinsky, Psych has the job of selling addiction as a ‘Disease’. This label may be good for pharmaceutical sales but it doesn’t help recovering addicts (Ref: Baldwin Research Institute) The Disease model leads to a merry go round of services.

Dr. Drew may sound like a nice guy, but his main job is selling addiction as a disease to the American and Canadian public. Count how many times the word ‘disease’ or ‘treatment’ will be used on his show. I don’t think I’m wrong about this prediction.

The Real Problem Beneath Drug Abuse

The person has made agreements with himself leading him into causing his addicted condition.

Yep, he actually dug himself into his own hole. She really walked into that mess and decided to stay.

It isn’t that he can’t resolve the problem, it’s the fact that he’s made a decision/s which makes the problem impossible to solve. Does she say, “I can’t leave him . . . I don’t know what to do”

How’s she going to stop using crack if the guy she sleeps with is high on crack most nights?

Have you heard your loved one say:

I’ll always be an addict; I can’t stop using drugs; I’ll be addicted for the rest of my life; I don’t want to admit I’m powerless over my addiction; they tell me I have to surrender to my addiction before I can stop using drugs.

How Does One End Drug Abuse?

An Addict Has These Actual Goals

Primary Goal To End Addiction: To find the truth and knowledge about how to rise out of the trap of addiction.

Second Rate Goal To End Addiction: To maintain one’s condition or status and continue surviving in a bleak or not so bleak existence.

An addict is driven by pain and environmental hopelessness to continue drug use. They are actually stuck in a seemingly unsolvable problem – until now.
