Interesting post and indeed, compassionate perspective.

I hate this idea that if you come from privledge or money, you are some how unworthy of compassion when mental illness or substance abuse swallows you whole.

It illustrates that despite all psychological research to the contrary, most people still think money buys happiness, and those that have it, have 'no reason' to be unhappy or out of control-- they don't have, "real problems."

A sense of entitlement (which often comes with money and privledge) is a barrier to recovery, as is relative youth. I think this is "why" Lindsey, Brit, Kirsten, and Eva hit a nerve for so many.

I think what these women need from us is not just compassion, but detached-compassion; they need the space to figure out for themselves whether or not that really want to get sober.

Oh yeah...celebs have real problems. Exactly which child of privilage or celeb that has terrible handlers are you talking about. Back in the day when Cary Grant or Robert Redford had a problem with alcohol they didnt make a complete ass of themselves in public i.e. B Spears telling the EMS worker not to cover her up. Sorry but your compassion is misguided. If you have a problem get help and move on. Instead of getting behind the wheel after a few then crying when you get arrested and thinking your stardom is the most important. This post is beneath you..dont pity the lucky and well off
