Alcohol Binges and April’s Fools

April 30th, 2008

If you keep up to date with Australian news, you should know that Alcohol abuse was under the spotlight recently.

The now infamous Nick D’Arcy who obviously had excessive alcohol and now seems to have lost his chance of representing Australia in the Olympics…

I mean, common, for someone who’s work his butt off for at least the last 4 years trying to get a place in the Olympics, and to throw it all away because he got his brain intoxicated by alcohol.

I just don’t get it. Why would anyone let themselves get into that position in the first place?

See what Alcohol can do to a person’s sanity?

And with the news about alcohol in sports being in the spot light lately, it just goes to show how big a problem alcohol can be for our society.

That lead me to do a little further research into drinking alcohol, especially heavy drinking that is really what causes problems.

In fact, binge drinking is an epidemic problem among young people.

A research done back in 2002 showed that amongst the 14 to 24 year olds, 45% had binged on alcohol while back in 1997 it was only 18%.

The community acceptance of alcohol, and publicity about its positive health benefits has most likely lead to this.

Youngsters look up to their sports role models and sees heavy drinking as acceptable by the society, and follow suit.

We all know how bad alcohol is to the liver. And maybe it’s this drinking culture of Australia, that I see so many people with “Liver” problems in the practice.

I don’t mean that the type of liver problem where your liver blood tests are out of whack.

But the liver problem from a Chinese medicine perspective whereby its ability to flow the energy in the body is compromised.

This then leads to increased tendency or susceptibility to stress, anxiety, depression, poor sleep, anger, men Read the rest of this entry »

Hate The Addiction

April 29th, 2008

How do we beat our addictions? There are many positive steps that we can take to beat the addictions of drugs, alcohol, sex, and many others. We can draw on our emotions for strength. We can find a positive outlet, i.e. running, reading, studying, hiking, horseback riding, pray and many others.

My main way for winning the addiction battle is to hate the addiction. Daily we must muster all the pure hatred we can for the addiction. We must mentally prepare ourselves for battle. My main source for strength to fight addictions is an emotion one. You can also use your emotions as a force to help in these daily battles of addiction(s).

We often remember the pass failures and broke inhibitions that were influenced by our addictions. These memories are very painful, but as General Powell said “they are part of the record”. We can also use these memories as a source of strength to fight addictions. We have to draw a line in the sand and take a stand. Emotions can play a major part in combating addictions. Personally, I have found pure unfiltered hatred of the addiction to be a major source of strength.

Another way to find strength to fight our addictions is to talk about it. When we have the opportunity to pull out our soap boxes; pull it out. I have family members that are not to happy when I take out my soap box. But, I am not ashamed of telling about my battle with any addiction. We have to take a stand. Let people see who you truly are. For, example I will proudly say to a table full of family and friends that I stop drinking in 1994. I am very proud of that fact and unashamed. I would tell that to the president face to face and eyeball to eyeball.

We can maintain our addiction winning by keeping the fire going. This means not forgetting were we came from. Nobody likes to goes backwards in life, we all like to keep Read the rest of this entry »

Addiction - Escaping The Prison

April 28th, 2008

First things first, if you do not want to be helped then no matter how good peoples’ intentions are to help, it won’t help any. It is likely to more damage than good and if you actually manage to force someone in to rehab the chances of them re-offending is enormous.
This goes for everyone, not only for those who are addicted to whatever it maybe. People can even been

Being addicted means you believe in your heart and every single fiber of your being that there is no possible way to live without whatever it is you are addicted to. The object of your addiction can be anything from the common addictions like alcohol, drugs, cigarettes to less common known ones like people and emotions.

The thing with addiction is that you don’t actually realize that you are addicted. Can you imagine being
thrown in jail and not knowing why? Well that’s what you have effectively done to yourself, blindly thrown yourself in prison and then unwittingly given your addiction the key to freedom.
Denial best friend and nobody can even begin to understand you. It seems as if the whole world is picking on you. And then when/if you finally do become aware of your addiction you feel that you can’t break it. Well at least that is how I felt.

Want know what the number one reason that stops people from breaking their addiction and becoming addicted in the first place?

FEAR

How do you overcome fear? Well it certainly isn’t scare tactics they never work over the long term. That may work for the short term but evidence suggests the exact opposite is true. So, what is the solution? There is no one solution because we as humans are different but here are just a few tips: Get help to build your confidence and belief in yourself, this could be in the form of therapy or self-help home courses. The point is to ask for and seek help. Admitting to you Read the rest of this entry »
