Kick your Addictive Bad Habits

If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think.” Oprah Winfrey

Ask yourself this question, “Are addictions bad habits?” Yes! they are.

The resounding answer, to the question above, is based on the “habit model” that relates to addiction. The Theory of Addiction asserts that, if you say there is a difference, there only reason; and that is to persecute addicts.

People with the bad habit of smoking usually feel a large amount of persecution. Smoking is disdained by society as a whole even though it is not actually illegal yet. But at least one state, New Mexico, has made it a crime to smoke in public.

A few years ago you could smoke anywhere. A husband could smoke in the maternity waiting rooms in anticipation of his expecting wife’s delivery; and nurses habitually smoked in the Nurses’ Station.

Then the sanctions began. You could smoke only in buildings, at first. But you had to go to a designated smoking room. Then there was a restriction to smoke only in a “designated smoking area”, which was usually located outside of a building.

Bars, restaurants, cities, and even whole states are going smoke-free. You might think that a lot of people would have given up the bad habit of smoking because of public scorn.

However, you have to remember how seriously addicted they were before the banishment came into place. The fact of the matter is that they still are addicted; and they always will be. That is exactly how addiction works.

Countless individuals have switched one bad habit for another: chewing tobacco, snuff, and/or nicotine patches. It seems like a noble effort because, after all, they are sparing others from their second hand smoke; and its ill effects.

The nicotine is just as addictive, even though the tobacco is not smoked. Refraining from using smokeless tobacco may be just as hard of a habit to break as is cigarettes. People resort to other bad habits to get their nicotine “fix”, like using patches and chewing nicotine gum for instance.

Another addictive habit is using sleeping pills in order to acquire a deep slumber at nighttime. You may become so addicted to sleeping pills that you require a progressively larger dosage in order to fall asleep.

Sleeping pills eventually become ineffective. Individuals periodically overdose because they are trying to reach a dosage, which will help them to fall asleep. Medical intervention and/or sleep clinics are frequently required in an attempt to resolve the situation.

Alcohol consumption can turn into a bad habit, especially if you drink excessively. It can be risky to drink any alcohol if you have some specific physical condition, like being allergic to it.

Many people visit several doctors without informing any of their physicians that they are doing so. And then they get a variety of medications, which can result in potentiation.

in other words, drugs can interact; and the effect of the interaction is greater than the sum of what both of them would normally have if they were taken together. Such behavior can have fatal consequences.

Plus, when an individual is addicted to alcohol, they may not be concerned that ingesting it with certain medications may take their life. Nor will they worry about losing their job or their relationship. All they want is their next drink.

Drugs are bad habits. There is a copious amount of illegal drugs in the world; way too many to count.

Drugs have a variety of affects, which can result in diverse levels of addiction. Some have sudden effects, which may have devastating results.

Some drugs may result in negligible damage over a short period of time; but, nonetheless, they are considered to be bad habits.

You could join a club drug that accommodates your particular addiction. Psychiatrists and clinicians form therapy groups for all variety of users, such as: cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens and amphetamines.

Using illegal drugs have serious consequences. Legal drugs, which people use, can also turn into bad habits. People may start taking them after an injury or as a result of medical conditions.

Percocet tablets are a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Percocet is an effective analgesic but it is addictive. That is because oxycodone is an opioid analgesic medication.

Muscle relaxants are an effective intervention for certain medical conditions. However, they are also very addictive and can become a bad habit for some people.

You may want to get over it, but maybe you don’t know how to do it. The fact-of-the-matter is that once you are seriously addicted to some drugs, the experience of your addiction may lead your brain to start the addictive mode again. Your senses, like sight, taste, smell, touch and hearing could all beacon you to do it again.

There is no mystery why people struggle with addictive bad habits for years. But, if you are addicted, you need to purge yourself of it; liberating yourself from addictions can help you lead to a long and productive life, and it could also help you economically.

    Karen,
It seems just about everyone close to me is addicted to something; smoking, drinking, meth (I think this is over now), pain killers you name it, I know someone addicted to it. I’ve seen some good improvements over the past few years and one important activity it seems is to work. When people are working, their self-esteem rises and their addictive behaviors lessen. Of course, that’s my addiction, working all the time. I don’t think I’m at an unhealthy level yet, but I know I have hard time just relaxing on the weekends.
